- +WHO SHOULD ATTEND
- Personnel who use portable leaning ladders and roof ladders for short duration access, who have already been trained to use and inspect those ladders, but are currently operating without any means to prevent a fall. Knowledge and experience of safety harness use is an advantage.
- +COURSE CONTENT
Current Legislation, Regulations and Guidance affecting work at height with ladders
Assembling, altering and dismantling ladders incorporating best practice for fall protection
Hazards affecting the safe use of ladders
Understand the difference between the fall arrest/restraint and the importance of correct anchorage
Pre-Use Inspection of ladders
How to safely assemble, dismantle and relocate ladders without the risk of personal injury to the delegate or others
Outline the main hazards of roof working
Outline the access procedures for portable ladder usage including pitched roof working
Understanding the method fitting, usage and inspection of the equipment specified for this course
Completion of practical exercises, using and fitting equipment & securing the ladder
Conducting a practical ladder exercise at a height of approximately 6 metres. This height is given as guidance only and does not place an absolute limit on the activities of delegates following a course
Conducting a practical ladder exercise demonstration & the equipment transfer methods when accessing a pitched roof
Self Rescue Awareness- +FINAL QUALIFICATION
An in-house Photocard and Certificate will be issued to successful delegates who complete the theory and practical sessions and is valid for 3 years

Instructor delegate ratio – Maximum of 1:12
Duration – 1 Day course (Dependant on group size)
Venue Requirement – A suitable classroom to accommodate 12 delegates for the theory session and an indoor / outdoor area suitable for the practical session with a minimum free height of 6 metres
PPE – Suitable head / foot / eye / glove protection during the practical session
Assessment – Open book course with a pass mark of 80% in the theory (which is multiple choice) and practical sessions, so delegates are encouraged to make notes
Qualifications & Experience – No formal qualifications or experience are necessary, but it would be beneficial if delegates had a basic understanding of work at height issues
A small number of delegates can travel to a venue where another Ladder Safety (Portable Leaning & Roof) Training Course is being conducted by Albion Training Services, subject to prior arrangement.
