Scaffold Inspection

This two day course is designed for managers, supervisors and people in control of work premises and safety whose duties require them to inspect scaffolding. It is also suitable for those in need of a strong appreciation of scaffold requirements and for those who wish to keep up to date knowledge of any changes to standards and/or regulations within the industry.

On successful completion of the course, the delegate will be able to demonstrate the following:

A sound knowledge of the legal obligations covering the provision and use of scaffolding including BS EN 12811-1 (TG20:21), British Standards and HSE legislation and recommendations for inspecting all types of scaffolding which includes tube & clip scaffold erected to a generally recognised standard configuration, system scaffolds as well as mobile towers.
Appreciate the safe erection, alteration and dismantling procedures as laid out in NASC SG4:15
The ability to identify scaffold components, the British Standards they conform to and know the reasons for their use
Identify the safe working loads for platforms
A knowledge of standard scaffold structures, differentiate between various scaffold systems and where and when the requirements for calculations and design are
Adopt a safe working practice for the use of ladders for access and
The techniques of scaffold inspection and the completion and recording of scaffold inspection reports

The training is delivered over 2 days and split between classroom and practical exercises, including the inspection of reconstructed scaffolds.

Safe Access and Egress
The Inspection of all types of scaffold (Independent, putlog, system, mobile and static towers).
Statutory Inspections and completion of reports also incorporating handover certificates and manufacturers instructions for basic
The provision and use of scaffolding
The correct terminology
Components and construction standards required to ensure safe places of
Prevention of unauthorised access onto scaffolds and the main contractors

The course will also study inspection techniques and the recording procedures necessary to comply with the statutory provisions. A practical scaffold inspection to facilitate inspection techniques is included.

NB: This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and competence to inspect basic scaffolds (design scaffolds not included).

On completion of training an in-house photo card and certificate will be awarded. This will be valid for 3 years.

Delegates should provide their own personal protective clothing in a clean and working order, which includes safety helmets, protective gloves, hi vis and safety footwear.

Delegates should inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication, which may create difficulties in undertaking elements of this training course.

For training held at your own location, please ensure that the classroom you make available has a 240v power supply and is a suitable size for the number of delegates attending. Please ensure that the practical area has been risk assessed, is free from harm and is suitable for training. A suitable scaffold and aluminium tower should also be available for the practical exercises.

In order to pass the course, delegates will need to successfully complete a post-course assessment paper.
